Portrait David Byrne by Jon Tebeau.
Dizzy’s has always featured work of local artist’s on it walls. Dizzy’s latest show features work by artist, illustrator John Tebeau. Tebeau’s liberally borrows from pop culture from the Talking Heads to Bugs Bunny. Tebeau says about his “Portrait of David Byrne”:
“I’ve tried to capture elements of all this in this portrait. The stately presentation implies his seriousness of purpose and dignity. The letters and dancers behind him are a nod to his on-stage showmanship and visual presentation. I’ve included the lamp from “Stop Making Sense” and a “tiger walking behind him” from his latest album, as well as Bugs Bunny and Pan, two of the great Trickster icons. The sun, moon, trees and flowers lend a cosmic air to the picture. And the angelic cherry on top of his whipped cream hair is an absurdist, but meaningfully playful touch. The spacey glyphs to the right are best viewed by tilting your head 90 degrees to your left.”
